Team works! in Germany

Team works! in Germany enables young experts from African countries to undertake an internship in Germany for a period of several weeks. Examples include internships in businesses, healthcare or welfare facilities and civil society organisations. These internships always focus on a matter concerning the implementation of one of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals. They also give the young experts the opportunity to see what everyday life and working life are like in Germany and to share ideas and knowledge with their colleagues in the organisation to which they are assigned. An experienced SES mentor is on hand to support the young experts during their internships.

ASSIGNMENTS IN GERMANY WITH TEAM WORKS!

01 APPLICATION

Team works! in Germany is aimed at African experts between the ages of 18 and 30 at the end of their vocational training or in their first years of work. The young experts apply on our website or are suggested by SES experts with deployment experience in Africa.

02 SELECTION OF PLACE OF INTERNSHIP

The SES looks for a suitable place for an internship in Germany, organises the participant’s flights and accommodation and helps both the young expert and the host enterprise make the necessary preparations.

03 PREPARATION

The SES arranges an initial online meeting to enable the young expert and the place of internship to get to know each other. Working with the SES mentor, they develop ideas aimed at ensuring their collaboration in Germany is a success. Various preparation modules are also offered.

04 FINANCING AND ORGANISATION

The SES plans and organises the travel and the necessary papers, purchases the necessary insurance and arranges accommodation. Neither the place of internship nor the young expert incurs any costs as a result of their participation in Team works!

05 INTERNSHIP

Each internship is linked to one of the 17 SDG and involves, for example, renewable energy production or sustainable consumption. The young expert has the opportunity to see what working life in Germany is like and to share ideas and knowledge with their colleagues in the organisation to which they are assigned.

06 POST-INTERNSHIP PHASE

The young expert and the SES evaluate the internship together, looking at questions such as: What was achieved in the enterprise? What lessons learned are relevant to the young expert’s own work? What ideas have they gained for their own sustainability action in society? The AGYO provides advice on opportunities for action and networking.

The SES experts

SES experts volunteer both in Germany and abroad, sharing their expertise with enterprises, public administration bodies, welfare/healthcare facilities and many other organisations. We asked some of them to tell us about themselves.
